Expedited Processing (Green Building and Affordable Housing)
How can I make my petition move faster?
Sarasota County offers two options for expediting the processing of applications for developments of critical concern, rezone and special exception petitions, site and development plans, and building permit applications:

Provide Affordable Housing
Affordable housing means that some percentage of the units are affordable for rent or ownership to households earning less than 100% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The current AMI may be found by clicking here.

Use Green Building Techniques
Green building refers to the construction practices, building materials and design features that conserve energy and protect the environment – both in the construction process and throughout the life of the structure. The Florida Green Building Coalition has developed a Development Standard for residential and commercial development that includes conservation of natural resources, green circulation systems that emphasize multi-modal connectivity, and energy-saving utilities, amenities, and construction standards.

Sarasota County offers expedited processing of developments of critical concern, amendments to sector plans, rezone and special exception petitions, site and development plans, and building permit applications that achieve the FBGC’s Green Development Designation.
