You have found one of the
jewels of Sarasota County, the Nokomis Beach Plaza. This
historic plaza is nestled in between the North Jetty and Casey
Key. Once you're over the bridge on Albee Road, you will
be directly in front of one the most pristine and untouched
beaches in the area. The Nokomis Beach Plaza is the
perfect place to hold an event. It has a lovely community
room, equipped with a small kitchen, refrigerators, and sink. There are small tables and chairs that can be arranged in a
variety of configurations. Just outside the community room
is a 10,000 sq. ft. plaza with a covered walkway and fountain. The
plaza has updated restrooms, a handicap-accessible boardwalk
with showers. Once on the beach, you'll be putting your
toes into a soft sand and the beach is wide enough for large
parties, volleyball games and much more. This location is
one the county's best kept secrets.
Of special note is the red and yellow lighting in the plaza, as
this location is favorite for nesting sea turtles.
History
Nokomis Beach is one of the oldest beaches
operated by Sarasota County. In 2008 the building and plaza underwent a
complete facelift, returning this gem to original beauty. To ensure the site remained as originally designed, the
architect that designed it was brought back to complete
the refurbishment.
