Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors

The Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors, have been awarded the Group Voluntary Service Award from The Florida Recreation and Park Association, a statewide non-profit organization representing local government parks and recreation interests in the State of Florida on Aug. 27,2009.

Awards Chair Greg Scott stated, “Sarasota County’s Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors are an example of the effective use of interested and engaged citizens. The contribution of personal time and creative energy to assure that visitors and residents are able to access information about the many natural attractions in the County, is irreplaceable.”

Volunteers such as The Ambassadors, dedicate millions of hours each year to parks and recreation agencies across the State of Florida. Sarasota County is very proud of their beach ambassadors.

Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors Participating partners:

The Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors are volunteers in partnership with Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce and the Sarasota Convention and Visitors Bureau. They provide a happy welcome to visitors at one of the best beaches in the world!

Started in 2004, the Beach Ambassador program has over 40 volunteers who provide assistance to beach goers seven days a week.

Summer hours: June - September - 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Winter hours: October - May - 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Beach ambassadors help residents and visitors enjoy their Siesta Key Beach experience. Ambassadors can answer questions about Siesta Key, including general information about the area, other County beaches and parks, providing directions to cultural attractions, natural areas, businesses, and the downtown Visitors Center. They also help to keep Sarasota beautiful by explaining the “Pack in, Pack out” policy for removing your own trash and recyclables as well as the importance of keeping all parks and natural areas litter free.

If interested in becoming a Siesta Key Beach Ambassador, register with the Volunteer Sarasota System at www.scgov.net/volunteers or contacting 941-861-5000.
