The Sarasota County Commission Tuesday
approved $3,118, 321 in construction and design infrastructure
contracts, including two resurfacing projects.
Among Capital Management Services contracts awarded were:
- Resurfacing of University Parkway from
U.S. 41 to U.S. 301. The $1,092,191 contract awarded to APAC-Southeast
Inc. of Sarasota calls for resurfacing approximately 1.57
miles, and includes replacement of traffic sensors with
detection cameras, railroad crossings and signage, as well
as sidewalk upgrades under the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA).
- Construction is expected to begin
next month and be completed in July.
- The project is being funded primarily
by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
under a local agency program (LAP) grant agreement with
the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
- Resurfacing of Venice Avenue from
Ramsey Road to west of Jacaranda Boulevard in Venice.
The $853,180 contract with Ajax Paving Industries of
Florida LLC in Nokomis includes resurfacing
approximately 1.6 miles, replacing of signage and ADA
sidewalk upgrades.
- Construction is scheduled to
begin this month and be completed in June.
- This project also is primarily
funded by ARRA under a LAP grant agreement with FDOT.
- A $624,650 contract with TLC
Diversified Inc. of Palmetto for construction of
Pump Station No. 5 improvements, including the
installation of a third high-service pump and motor,
piping, chemical feed systems and upgrades to
monitoring, electrical and instrumentation systems.
- The improvements are expected
to enhance and stabilize system pressures in the
distribution system during peak demand times.
- The pump station is on
Proctor Road, just east of Cattlemen Road.
- Construction is expected to
start this month and be finished by December.
- Funding is provided through
rates.
- A $548,300 contract with
WilsonMiller Inc. of Sarasota for professional
services, including preliminary and detailed
design, permitting, easement assistance and
construction phase services for the Oak Ford
Pump Station and Force Main project. Sarasota
County Utilities took ownership of the Oak Ford
wastewater treatment plant and collection system
from Oak Ford Sewer Inc. on June 30, 2009. When
the project is completed, the Oak Ford plant
will be decommissioned.
- Design is scheduled to be
completed in March 2011.
- Construction is expected
to begin in September 2011 and take about a
year.
- Funding will be provided
through rates.
