A
free Community Disaster Preparedness Workshop for local
homeowner associations, business and nonprofit organizations and
others will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 2-4 p.m. at the
Community Foundation of Sarasota County, 2635 Fruitville Road,
Sarasota.
“Although our community has been fortunate in past hurricane
seasons, the unexpected may be just around the corner,” says
Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Edward McCrane. “If
we experience a catastrophic event, local government and
response organizations are going to be very busy. This is why it
is essential that every organization and neighborhood community
think through how they would respond, put it on paper and
mobilize their members ahead of time through practice drills.”
Topics to be addressed in this workshop include the role of
Sarasota County Emergency Management, potential hazards and
vulnerabilities in our county, preparedness plans and lessons
learned from other locations and disasters.
This
workshop is sponsored by the Senior Friendship Centers
Friendship Volunteer Center, and the Nonprofit Resource Center
of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
