(July 12, 2010) Beginning this
month, Sarasota County voters who choose to cast absentee ballots in any
election will be able to track their ballots online. The new online
service also allows voters to check their registration status, party
affiliation and local polling place information, and to request an
absentee ballot.
Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent said “This service
will answer some of the most common questions we get from voters just
prior to an election and reduce the volume of phone calls from concerned
voters during an election cycle.
“More importantly, it will increase voter confidence in
the election process by allowing a voter to track his or her absentee
ballot from the time we receive the request to the time the voted ballot
is safely received in the elections office,” she said.
Voters can go to the
http://registration.election.myflorida.com
and enter their name and date of birth to track their absentee ballots
and access other election information.
Requests for absentee ballots for the August 24 Primary
Election to be mailed must be received by the supervisor of elections
no later than 5 p.m. on
Wednesday, August 18.
Ms. Dent also
reminds absentee voters that, to be counted, the voted ballot must be
received in one of the three supervisor of elections’ offices in
Sarasota, Venice, or North Port no later
than 7 p.m.
on election day.
Marked absentee ballots may not be turned in at a polling place
on election day.
