 The
Rollins W. Coakley Railroad Park and Historic Venice Train Depot
are located just west of U.S. 41 Bypass off Venice
Avenue. The depot primarily serves as the south county passenger
transfer facility for Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT).
 Patriot’s
Park is located at U.S. Highway 41 and U.S. Highway 41 Bypass
intersection. The trail will connect to the park through 12 foot
sidewalks being constructed in conjunction with the U.S. Highway
41 Bypass project. The concrete sidewalk should be completed on
or before the trail completion.
 Nokomis
Park is located east of U.S. Highway 41 Bypass on Nippino Trail.
The connection to the park will be on the southwest corner of
the park. There is an existing one mile primitive trail around
the park that will connect to the trail.
 Laurel
Park is located to the east of U.S. Highway 41 on Collins Road.
The park is to the south of Laurel Road. The fitness trail
located on the eastside of the park is the connection to the
trail.
Bay Street Park is
location approximately one half mile east of U.S.
Highway 41 in Osprey. Parking is available for the
trail. A future connection is planned to Bay Street Park
through improvements on Bay Street including sidewalks
and bike lanes.
 Oscar
Scherer State Park is located off U.S. Highway 41 north
of State Road 681. The trail will connect to the park
through the park’s existing trails system. Overnight
camping is permitted. In May 2006. the first fun run was
held in the park and along the trail.
A future connection to
Potter Park is planned via the Stoneybrook trail. The
Stoneybrook trail is on Central Sarasota Parkway and
will connect the trail to the park near U.S. Highway 41.
The county also will open a parking area for trail users
just north of the Central County Water Reclamation
Facility off McIntosh Road. A future trailhead is
planned for this area. The planned trail head is
currently not funded for design or construction. |
