| A Florida Department of
Environmental Protection mandated program, the Small Quantity
Generator inspectors provide education and compliance assistance
to businesses on the proper storage, management and disposal of
commercially generated hazardous wastes. Additionally, this group
is responsible for ensuring that hazardous building components
(such as fluorescent lamps, ballast, mercury switches, etc.) are
segregated from construction and demolition (C & D) wastes, and
that environmental contamination is mitigated during inadvertent
releases of hazardous materials.
Generally wastes are business
specific, however, below is a sample of some of the more
commonly found wastes:
- waste fuels
- petroleum products and
solvents
- corrosives like strong acids
- bases and toxics such as
commercial pesticides/herbicides and certain toxic metals.
- hazardous Building
Components and Electronics
- contaminated soils
