The approximately 5-acre site consists of two
residential lot parcels. One has a house circa 1950 and the
other is a vacant lot. Habitat includes coastal hammock,
mangroves along the Sarasota Bay shoreline, a cleared area, and
oyster and seagrass beds offshore.
Importance
Protection of this land would provide mature mangrove habitat
along 600’ of bay front. The site also contains a state
documented shell midden with evidence of prehistoric habitation.
High species diversity exists, including mollusk, invertebrate,
fish and bird species.
Status
The Board of County Commissioners approved these parcels as a
Protection Priority Site in May 2004. Various land protection
options may be used for protection.
