| This program focuses on
maintenance dredging of navigable waterways to improve
navigation and boater safety, as well as for channel realignment
and environmental enhancement.
An important distinction from
public dredging projects is that this program addresses
citizen-initiated dredging of canals and other established
navigable waterways between waterfront properties and the Intracoastal
Waterway.
Sarasota County government does not finance the dredge projects
administered by this program.
Other responsibilities of this
program include signage and boat traffic management, derelict
vessel management, boater safety and education, and sediment
source abatement.
Navigation
Improvement
The navigation improvement
program works to physically improve waterway navigation by
establishing aids and removing hazards. The county installs and
maintains channel markers and other aids to navigation that are
not otherwise covered by state or federal jurisdiction. |
