Public Safety Communications
The Public Safety Communications Center (PSC) is a joint venture between the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Public Safety Communications Services section of the Sarasota County Emergency Services Business Center.
  • All PSC personnel are employed and managed by the Sheriff’s Office while the logistical, technical planning and the operating budget are provided by Public Safety Communications Services.
  • The PSC is a 6,700 square foot facility that has been in operation since February 10, 1996.
  • This state-of-the-art communications center is the primary answering point for all 9-1-1 calls for Sarasota County.
  • The PSC provides full communications services for the Sarasota County Fire Department, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department, city of Venice Fire Department, North Port Fire Department, Englewood Fire Control District, Sarasota City Police Department and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
The PSC became an accredited facility by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) in November 2002. The PSC has also been reaccredited twice under the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office by the Commision for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), and once under the Sarasota Police Department by the (CFA).

The PSC utilizes a Motorola Astro 800 MHz Smart Net digital trunked radio system, Intergraph Public Safety Computer Aided Dispatch computer (CAD) , and CML computerized telephone system. The PSC maintains a fully functional back-up/training center in the event that the main center must be evacuated. There would be no interruption of service to the public during an evacuation. The PSC has staffing positions for 113 employees, including three positions staffed by employees other than Sheriff’s employees.
