The Sarasota County Fire Department
provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the residents of
the city of Sarasota, city of Venice, and all other
unincorporated areas of Sarasota County Florida, including
Nokomis and Englewood, Florida.
The Department currently operates 25 advanced life support
transport ambulances and 6 advanced life support non-transport
fire engines. Sarasota County Fire Department employs
approximately 500 firefighter/EMT firefighter/paramedics.
Employees participate in ongoing continuous medical education
programs to ensure the best possible quality pre-hospital
emergency medical care for the residents and visitors of
Sarasota County.
The Fire Department, utilizing standard medical protocols
developed by Dr. Steven Newman, M.D., the Medical Director, and
through on-line medical direction, is able to deliver Emergency
Medical Services to patients whenever requested. EMS currently
works with five in-county resource hospitals, six out-of-county
resource hospitals, as well as, Bayflite Aeromedical and
Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Department responds to approximately 37,000 calls for
medical assistance each year. Emergency Medical Service is
provided to the residents and visitors of Sarasota County. It is
done with specialized medical equipment using the most
up-to-date technology available in pre-hospital medical care.
The Sarasota County Fire Department is dedicated to providing
quality service to our residents and visitors through our highly
trained Emergency Medical personnel and our associations with
the area’s medical community.
