All vendors who provide services for
Sarasota County must have insurance and staff is responsible for
assuring they have adequate coverage. Insurance protects the
county and taxpayers by transferring the risk associated with
services and work to a third party. The amount of insurance the
contractor must carry is determined by the risk involved in the
work.
To help determine how much insurance a contractor is required to
carry, a sample insurance certificate was created for the
contractor classes. The sample certificate only shows what
general liability, commercial auto, umbrella and workers'
compensation are needed. Some contractors also may need special
classes of insurance like professional liability, garage keepers
or liquor liability. Note: Certificates highlighted in a light blue
tone with a red dot next to it are for those contractors who need special insurance.
Sample insurance certificates can be
obtained by clicking the alpha links in the grey navigation bar
to the left.
To view or download a sample insurance certificate, click on the service
that’s needed. A sample insurance certificate will be displayed.
A contractor can give this to an insurance agent to show how
much, what type and what special language needs to be on the
certificate.
