Deadline for south county park name submissions extended until May 25   Public meeting set May 24 on design, permitting, construction of new Gulf Gate Library
Sarasota County Parks and Recreation officials are accepting ideas on a name for one of the county's recently acquired sites that will be home to a future park. The Myakka River / U.S. 41 site is located at 9083 South Tamiami Trail in Venice and was the subject of a recent public input session where residents provided ideas on what they would like to see in the park. (MORE)   Patrons of Sarasota County libraries who have outstanding overdue items will be able to return the items without penalty May 14-19 to any Sarasota County library location. Items must be returned in person to the circulation desk in order for the transaction to be completed and recorded. Fines will not be waived for items returned in book drops or by mail.  (MORE)
Second World Cafe event in North Port scheduled May 31   County Emergency Management Chief Ed McCrane to be featured speaker at disaster orientation event on May 29

Back in North Port by popular demand, The World Cafe event will be held on Thursday, May 31, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the North Port Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail, North Port. The World Café is a forum for people with diverse points of view to come together and explore ways to work together to build a sense of community. "Adults of all ages and high school students are encouraged to participate in a lively discussion where everyone has a voice," said Sarasota Partnership for Children Project Director Liza Leonard.   Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Ed McCrane will be the featured presenter at a faith-based and neighborhood association disaster orientation entitled "Applying the Lessons Learned." The event will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on the sixth floor of the Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. New county online procurement system goes live May 21   Snook Haven Restaurant to close for the summer

Sarasota County's new online procurement system, eProcure, is going live May 21, replacing the current online service (DemandStar) with a free, single website for Sarasota County solicitations, policies, procedures and forms. Effective May 21, vendors must register with eProcure to participate in any solicitation opportunities of $3,000 or higher. Vendors who register with eProcure will be automatically notified when solicitations are issued that potentially match their qualifications.  (MORE)

  The Snook Haven Restaurant located in Snook Haven Park, 5000 E. Venice Ave., Venice, will close for the summer while Sarasota County Parks and Recreation performs maintenance and seeks a new concessions vendor. The current vendor, Sunrise Sunset Concessions LLC, has notified the county that it is unable to live up to the terms of the agreement, and will vacate the premises by June 7. The public will continue to have access to the park, including the popular canoe/kayak launch on the Myakka River.  (MORE)
